Kelvin J Birk

Established jeweller Kelvin J Birk has developed an intriguing body of experimental jewellery and objects. Sapphires, rubies, emeralds and other precious stones have been smashed and then reconstructed on precious metal structures.

Some of the results are carefully planned and designed and others evolve naturally from the intrinsic qualities of the material. 'There is always destruction and loss but out of that come new things and a new order,' he says. His jewellery illustrates this theme of chaos and re-creation.
