Eleanor Lakelin is the recipient of the Cockpit Arts Worshipful Company of Turners Award 2011.
Eleanor trained as a cabinet-maker and now creates vessels out of wood turned on a lathe. Her goal is to create simple but powerful shapes that appeal to both our visual and tactile senses.
An increasing amount of her work is done using green wood which is then turned using gouges and chisels to shape and smooth the vessel . The piece is then carefully seasoned to use the natural movement and distortion of wood to enhance the shape. Other processes used include scorching, bleaching and sandblasting.
Eleanor welcomes visits to her studio.
